There are many "chic" and "hip" hotels in NYC but some of them really bring back the spirit of spring and remind of the Bohemian NYC when women looked like Mia Farrow and Robert Redford in Great Gatsby. Cafe Gitane at Jane Hotel is so much that place. It is a pure visual pleasure for any keen observer of style and fashion in NYC. The interiors are pleasantly shiny pastel painted; in the bathroom, there is an image of Serge Gainsbourg instructing not too smoke with his famous decadent smile and cigarette.
Perfectly stylistically matching is the entire staff of the cafe: barristas all dressed like boys from Ralph Lauren sailing ads reminding of the Côte d'Azur climate, waitresses in green girly dresses and managers with perfect leather shoes and white shirt rebelliously untucked. It is such a spacious well-lit room with the seductive view of the Hudson river, aura of the old Parisian hotels where Hemingway was getting his inspiration. Oh, it is a spring/summer brunch place to be.
After a great meal, highly recommended walk down Hudson street where a magic book stand was found with prices to kill for any serious book-lover. Who would say, that following Mediterranean mood of Gitane, I would find a book that I never thought existed. The Screenplays of Luna Wertmuller, first woman who inspired future generation of female directors to fight for their rights in the movie business.
For a ridiculous price, thanks again good old NYC, I found the inspiration to finally start this blog about style, fashion, books and all that makes NYC different than any city in the world.
