2011 Design Inspirations - part 1

It has certainly been a year of beautiful objects, inspirations, breath-taking views, professional transformations and design in all forms, or to be more correct I started paying particular attention to all that design represents from houses, to interiors of my favorite restaurants, elements of house decor...I did not mention fashion or books or music which for me construes design of who we are as people today I officially want to start my list with two very special objects I purchased last Summer.

1.) Wooden Duck Decoy from the 1960's, spotted on the flea market near Wiscasset, ME.
Some history to follow:
"Waterfowl decoys originated as handmade tools for subsistence living in the coastal regions of North America. Archeological evidence suggests that American Indians made the first decoys. European settlers were quick to adopt the practice, and soon were fashioning their own replicas of ducks and geese, carving wooden impersonators that lured waterfowl close to the fishermen-hunters’ guns. "

2.) Native American book ends, from about 1930's found hidden between million and one amazing books and antiquarian items in Elliot Healy Prints and Books, Wiscasett, ME. This place is pure magic for rare book lovers, three rooms packed with extremely rare printed gems. And behind the store there is a barn full of books that I was a bit intimidated to explore because probably I would need a ship to take them to New York. Anyway it is an absolute must for those who are looking for rare photography, art, history and children books from long time ago...As well as you can see above the delicately crafted Native-inspired tools to hold them on the shelf.

To be continued soon.
